Nav Clock

April 4th, 2009

Nav Clock$1.99 from Split Rail, Inc. Nav Clock

Nav Clock is based upon those cool multi-function weather station clocks that you see on people’s desks in their offices. Proudly display your iPhone™ or iPod® touch in its charging cradle or while on the go. Nav Clock is perfect for travelers, weather enthusiasts, pilots, hikers, and everyone else.

★ Nav Clock is one of only two iPhone Apps we are aware of that internally trends the barometric pressure and displays a pressure steady, rising, or falling indicator!

Awards: 2008 iPhoneFootprint.com iPhone Apps Excellence Award

FEATURES:
● Nav Clock brings together all of the current information you need in one very clean format.
● Location aware - great for travelers! Nav Clock will work immediately without any setup (for iPod touch see note below).
● Displays the current weather station information for your location including the “Feels Like” temperature (the Wind Chill or Heat Index based upon the temperature, wind, and humidity) and a Barometric pressure trending indicator. The current weather conditions include wind gusts, wind variability, and visibilities of as low as “<50” feet in some cases.
● Displays the time and location, offset from Greenwich Mean Time, aviation “Zulu” time (GMT), geographic coordinates, elevation above mean sea level (see note), and the accuracy of the location.
● The background sky condition photographs change to closely approximate the current sky conditions in your vicinity with gorgeous original photography. Over 90 background sky condition photographs are included with more being added with each update.
● The date is in the language set in the iPhone's Region Format, all other text is in English.
● Refresh button immediately refreshes all data - great for when you may be moving into and out of Wi-Fi coverage.
● Many preference settings allow you to customize the format of the display including the metric system, 24-hour time, Degrees-Minutes-Seconds, Degrees-Minutes.M, or WGS 84 coordinate systems, Fahrenheit, Celsius, or both, aviation weather formats, disable auto-lock (prevents the screen from sleeping), and more.

Developer Notes:
The elevation feature requires a GPS and therefore is available only on the iPhone 3G. All other features are available on all other iPhone and iPod touch models.

Nav Clock on iPod touch requires the reception of a major public or commercial Wi-Fi hot spot in order to determine your location - if Google Maps cannot determine your location, Nav Clock will not be able to either. Please see our Support page for additional information.

Oz Weather

April 1st, 2009

Oz Weather$1.99 from ozPDA Oz Weather

AUSTRALIAN WEATHER FOR THE IPHONE

All the essential Australian weather information you need in the palm of your hand - presented quickly, clearly and elegantly.

*** “Nothing as good yet for the US, even” - Apple product marketing manager
*** “The best I’ve seen” - Mark Webster, The NZ Herald

The most consistently high ranking Australian app of any kind!

WHAT IT HAS:
* Forecasts - so you know what to expect
* Current Weather - so you know what is happening now
* Animated Radar - so you know where it is raining, and whether it is heading your way

WHAT IT DOES:
This application provides frequently updated weather forecasts, observations and radar loops from official Australian Bureau of Meteorology sources.

WHY YOU WOULD WANT IT:
The weather information it provides is of much higher quality, immediacy and relevance than what is provided by US weather suppliers via the built-in iPhone weather application. It also includes important local current weather warnings and alerts.

MORE DETAILS:
Forecasts of up to 7 days are available for all officially available forecast cities/locations, and local observations of current temperature, humidity, wind and rainfall are typically updated at least once every 10 minutes (less often for smaller locations). If you are interested in capital city weather, you will often see actual official measurements only minutes after they are taken. Also, this application shows you exactly how long ago the observations were made - no need to wonder whether the temperature and rainfall observations you are seeing were taken hours ago.

More than 250 Australian towns and cities are available in this application, and the user can compile a short-list of favourite places for quickest possible viewing. If you are only interested in one city, you get back to that city straight away the next time you run the application.

About 50 different radars around mainland Australia have been included. The radar view also has a “Locate Me” feature which queries the iPhone’s GPS and then centres the radar map on your current location along with an animated crosshair cursor. So no need to lose your location within a heavy rain band.

Radar data delivery has been carefully optimised to arrive quickly on your iPhone. Often you will find that the radar loop is already loaded and running as soon as you switch to the radar view for your selected city. And each radar image shown is identified with a label showing exactly how many minutes ago it was scanned - a significant improvement over other applications that only show you the image times in GMT timezone.

BACKGROUND:
This application was created by an Australian software developer with a BSc and PhD in meteorology and oceanography, and a passion for helping people via technology.

Your feedback is welcomed, and the application includes an email link on its information screen for that purpose.

NOTES:
- This application contains weather data *only* for Australian places. It is offered to overseas users only for those who want to keep an eye on Australian weather.
- Forecasts for regional locations for which BOM does not supply 7 day official forecasts have been extended with BOM computer modeling data. This is not as reliable as human-generated forecasts, but can still provide useful guidance about temperature and rainfall trends for those locations where this is not available from BOM published forecasts.

Local Radar

March 31st, 2009

Local Radar$1.99 from RamPage Publishing Local Radar

Is your parade about to get rained on?

Local Radar does what those other weather radar apps can’t. It makes interpreting NOAA radar weather maps a snap. Local Radar repositions NOAA radar composite images so your current position is centered in the map.

The red dot in the center of the map marks your current location so you can always tell at a glance where the weather is relative to where you are.

Local Radar does only one thing, but it does it very simply and very well.

Radar coverage area includes the lower 48 states. Coverage for Hawaii, Puerto Rico and parts of Alaska coming soon.

Shralp Tide

March 25th, 2009

Shralp Tide$0.00 from shralpsoftware Shralp Tide

Check the tide before you head to the beach to surf, tide pool or just go for a walk or run. No network connection is required, so you can check anytime, anywhere.

ShralpTide displays the current tide along with the high and low tides for the current day and the next 4 days.

Includes an INTERACTIVE FULLSCREEN TIDE GRAPH in landscape mode. Turn the device on its side then touch the screen to see the tide at any time in the 24 hour window.

———————————————
*** Regarding Tide Station Locations ***

Shralp Tide does not include all of the tide stations in the world. It has good coverage of the US and Canadian coasts as well as Australia, New Zealand and Japan. Beyond that there is spotty coverage of international locations.

As of version 1.1.1, currents will no longer be available in Shralp Tide because they were a source of confusion to those expecting only tides. If enough people vote YES to seany’s review I’ll add currents back in a future release. I just need to clearly distinguish currents from tide stations to reduce confusion.

Your input is appreciated. Please keep the feedback coming!
